Manny Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn

Manny Pacquiao will fight on basic cable in the United States for the very first time on Saturday, as he defends his WBO welterweight championship against Jeff Horn from Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.

Watch Manny Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn Live Stream

ESPN will have coverage of the fight, which is also the first Pacquiao fight to air outside of pay-per-view in the United States since his knockout win of Hector Velazquez in September 2005. Pacquiao vs. Horn takes place in the early afternoon in Australia, which comes out to a start time of 9 p.m. ET for Saturday’s card.

Pacquiao’s fight should come approximately two and a half hours after the start of the card, which will also be available streamed online via WatchESPN and the ESPN app on various devices.

Since losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2015, Pacquiao has picked up quality wins over Timothy Bradley and Jessie Vargas. He has been clear he wants another shot at Mayweather, who will soon be boxing Conor McGregor in August, despite the latter being a mixed martial arts fighter.

It’s unclear if a Pacquiao vs. Mayweather 2 fight could happen on the heels of Pacquiao beating someone like Horn, but it’s what Pacquiao is angling for. Horn, a hometown favorite for Saturday’s card, will not be a pushover, however.

Horn is 16-0-1 and has won his last three fights via stoppage. Still, this will be a massive step up in competition for him and he’ll have his hands full with someone of Pacquiao’s skill level. It will be interesting to see if Horn tries to score a stoppage early, because Pacquiao has been a points fighter in the latter years of his career.

Pacquiao’s last knockout came in 2009, so he’s a long way from putting someone down. Still, Pacquiao is the heavy favorite for Saturday’s fight.

The televised portion of Saturday’s card will begin with a middleweight contest between Shane Mosley Jr. and Davis Touissaint. Michael Conlan and Jarrett Owen will then face each other, while the co-feature promises an exciting super flyweight title bout between Jewin Ancajas and Teiro Kinoshita.

Below is what you need to know to watch the action and below that is the full fight card for ESPN’s broadcast.

Top Rank Boxing will return later tonight (Sat., July 1, 2017) live on ESPN from inside Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, when Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38 KO) puts his WBO welterweight title on the line in a main event clash with Brisbane native and undefeated challenger Jeff “The Hornet” Horn (16-0-1, 11 KO). It will be the first time Pacquiao is not fighting on a pay-per-view (PPV) card since knocking out Hector Velazquez on HBO in 2005.

In addition to Pacquiao vs. Horn, IBF super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas will defend his title against Teiru Kinoshita in the co-main event, while undefeated Irish sensation Michael Conlon makes his return to action against Australia native Jarrett Owen to round out the main card.

Check out below to find out when and where you can catch ‘Pacquiao vs. Horn’ in its entirety, including a slew of additional main/preliminary card matchups.AFTER losing 4.6kg in only 15 hours, a starving Jeff Horn said he was ready for a bloody Sunday in an all-out war with world welterweight champ Manny Pacquiao in the Battle of Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium.

We’ll be missing the top three players in the world for this weekend’s U.S. Open finish, but it’ll hardly be without major storylines. Perhaps it’ll even be golf’s most captivating star playing the main role come Sunday evening.

Rickie Fowler owned the headlines for most of the first two days at Erin Hills, but it’s a crowded leaderboard atop America’s national championship. Through two rounds, two Americans — Brooks Koepka and Brian Harman — share the lead alongside two Englishmen — Paul Casey and Tommy Fleetwood — at 7-under par. Fowler seemed as if he was on cruise control for the first nine on Friday, holding the lead at 9-under par, before making his first three bogeys of the tournament on the 11th, 12th, and 13th holes and falling one behind the quartet of leaders.

Let’s get to the other major notes from a long day on the Kettle Moraine.

Hideki Golf is beautiful

Have you ever seen something so beautiful, so magical, so majestic.

Let’s start with a simple, bold statement: Hideki Matsuyama played the best round of golf I’ve ever seen in person on Friday. Not talking most impactful round, or biggest moment, or even score. I followed Fowler, Matsuyama, and Jon Rahm for a good chunk of the day on Friday — and I’ve never seen a dude hit so many shots just on the screws. It was a clinical dissection of a brutally large golf course. A show. A concerto. Joga bonito.

It’s not often a guy turns in a 7-under 65 in the US Open and we’re talking about how it could’ve gone better. But he still had a number of near-misses with the putter that could’ve put us into beyond-Johnny territory. Just one shot off the tournament record to par. Historical. That’s the type of performance Matsuyama put forward on Friday. What should be scary for the rest of the golf world is just how typical such a performance could be from the Japanese star all the time.

After early exits from Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, and Jason Day, he’ll be the highest-ranked player remaining in the field this weekend. Don’t be shocked if he takes home the title come Sunday night.

History! But the bad kind

Since the inception of the Official World Golf Ranking, never had the top three players in the world all missed the cut at the same major. That’s now no longer the case.

Despite all the lip service about how Erin Hills’ length might play to their advantage, Johnson, McIlroy, and Day will all exit stage right before the weekend begins. In fact, only four of the world’s top ten players made the cut at Erin Hills — Matsuyama, Fowler, Sergio Garcia, and Jordan Spieth. Woof.

For McIlroy, the struggles came as a surprise — even after his injury layoff.

“You play 54 holes around here before the golf tournament, I felt really, really comfortable. I drove the ball well, my irons were good. Everything was in good shape,” McIlroy said. “But you never really know until you put a card in your hand and you’re under the gun little bit. And some of the weaknesses and flaws that are in my game at the minute showed up over the last couple of days. It’s good to see those and see what needs to be worked on.”

It has become incredibly rare in recent years to find two boxers universally ranked in the top five pound-for-pound, who compete in the same division and — wait for it — are willing to fight each other.

It’s even more rare when they get to do it a second time with just as much at stake.

Seven months after Andre Ward scored a controversial victory by unanimous decision over fellow unbeaten Sergey Kovalev, the world’s best light heavyweights will do it again on Saturday, June 17, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas (HBO PPV, 9 p.m. ET). Tickets for the fight are still available on Stubhub.com for around $63 to get in the door.

Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs) attempts to prove that the trio of judges who scored the first bout 114-113 in favor of Ward did so in error. The native of Russia, who cried robbery in defeat, has vowed to be more aggressive in hopes of removing the judges from the equation.

Still, he’s eager to clear up any remaining doubts when they meet Saturday night (Sunday AEST) in a 175-pound title rematch.

“I am looking forward to making a statement in this fight, and removing any doubt that may be out there,” Ward said.

“Some of you think I lost the fight, but you’ve got to look at the other side of that coin. There a lot of people who are convinced I won it.”

Ward is among those people, and the fact that he rallied from a second-round knockdown to win makes him even more confident about the rematch. Kovalev faded in the first fight, and Ward plans to do everything he can to ensure that happens again.

“When he can’t get you out of there he fades,” Ward said.

“You kind of see a theme in his fights. He’s so used to people trying to get away from his power that he’s able to rest between the action.

The rematch is as intriguing as the first fight, when the question was whether Kovalev’s vaunted power would carry the day against a fighter who never really excites fans but always leaves the ring with his hand raised.

Ward, the 2004 Olympic gold medallist, hasn’t lost since age 12, though Kovalev is convinced there should be one big loss on his record.

“I know I will get my belts back,” Kovalev said. “I was empty in the first fight. For him it was like fighting a heavy bag.”

If the matchup isn’t attractive enough, the two fighters have a genuine dislike for each other they were not afraid to voice this week. There’s also a bit of an undercurrent about a Russian meeting an American, though Kovalev spends much of his time in Los Angeles.

On Saturday night, HBO Boxing presents a rematch of one of the biggest fights of 2016, as Andre Ward (31-0; 15 KO) once again takes on Sergey Kovalev (30-1-1; 26 KO) The fight is for Ward’s WBA, WBO, and IBF Light Heavyweight (175 pound) titles. Ring Magazine not only has these two as the top 2 in the division – it has them as the top 2 in all of boxing. The fight will air live on PPV this Saturday, June 17 with a fight time of 9:00 p.m. ET. Ward vs. Kovalev II caps off a four fight PPV card that also includes top 10 pound for pound fighter Guillermo Rigondeaux.

How do these two stack up?
Ward: 33 years old | 6’0” | 71″ reach | orthodox stance
Kovalev: 34 years old | 6’0″ | 72″ reach | orthodox stance

What have these two done recently?
Ward: W – Sergy Kovalev (UD) | W – Alexander Brand (UD) | W – Sullivan Barrera (UD)
Kovalev: L – Andre Ward (UD) | W – Isaac Chilemba (UD) | W – Jean Pascal (RTD)

How did these two get here?

Andre Ward became the undeniable king of Super Middleweight back in 2012, then lost a few years to a legal battle, fighting only once between 2012 and 2015. In 2016, he came back full time as a Light Heavyweight and went 2-0 in warm up fights getting ready to take on the Russian destroyer Kovalev. Though he walked out of their first fight with a unanimous decision win (114-113 across the board), most felt that win was perhaps not a robbery, but certainly undeserved. Ward is one of the best technicians in the game, and also underrated as a more rough and tumble fighter when needed. It will be interesting to see what kind of strategy he brings in this time.

Sergey Kovalev has been on a path of destruction for years, but it was around 2013 when he started gaining real national recognition. He rolled through every opponent, including a career best win over Bernard Hopkins in 2014, before finally taking his first loss against Ward. Kovalev is a power puncher with a massive KO ratio, but against both Hopkins and Ward he reminded everyone that he’s not just a heavy punch – he beat Hopkins by outworking him over the course of 12 rounds, and as mentioned above, most would say the same about his work against Ward. This is his chance to show how he bounces back from adversity.

What can fans expect?

I was torn on the first fight and went back and forth there. This one, I feel a little bit more comfortable in my pick. Like most, I did score that first fight for Kovalev – he dropped Ward in the second round and landed more power shots throughout in my eyes. This time, I expect to see two differences: 1) a more aggressive Kovalev going for the KO that he thinks he needs in order to win; and 2) a more savvy Ward who will have learned from the first fight and made some adjustments. Close rematches tend to favor the smarter fighter and here, that’s Andre Ward. I don’t think this will be a total blow-out, but I also don’t think it will be a controversy.
Prediction: Andre Ward, UD

Andre Ward (31-0, 15 KOs) defends his unified light heavyweight championships against former unified light heavyweight titleholder Sergey Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs) on Saturday night from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and live on HBO pay-per-view. Both fighters are among top five, pound for pound, in the world.

They first met in November and Ward escaped Vegas with a controversial unanimous decision (114-113, 114-113, 114-113) in a fight many ringside observers scored for the challenger.

Boxing fans will get to witness the sport at its highest level on Saturday with a much-anticipated rematch, as Sergey Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs) looks to get revenge against Andre Ward (31-0, 15 KOs) in a light heavyweight title contest.

In November of last year, Ward stormed back from an early knockdown to nick the powerful Kovalev on the cards, with all three judges scoring it 114-113 in the American’s favor.

Ward used every bit of his intelligence, skill and accurate counter-punching to come up with the result, which saw him win the WBA, IBF and WBO world light heavyweight titles in just his third fight in the division.

The weights are in, with both boxers coming in at 167.9-pounds [76.2-kilograms]. Juergen Braehmer says Paul Smith (38-6, 22 KOs) is not on the same level as Tyron Zeuge (20-0-1, 11 KOs) and is confident his protégé will defend the WBA World Super Middleweight title on Saturday, June 17 at the Rittal Arena in Wetzlar, Germany.

Braehmer, who guided Zeuge to his World title win over Giovanni De Carolis on November 5 at the MBS Arena in Potsdam, believes we have yet to see the best of the Berlin boxer, and expects him to show his class against his British challenger Smith.

Cologne’s Denis Radovan (4-0, 2 KOs) meets Josip Duric (3-1, 2 KOs) over six-rounds in what promises to be his toughest career test to date. If successful, the 24-year old super middleweight says he would like the chance to avenge an amateur defeat to domestic rival Stefan Haertel, who boxes in Wetzlar against Patrick Mendy, and to land his first title shot.

“I lost against Haertel in the amateurs so I would love the chance to set the record straight” said Radovan, who is trained by former World Champion Juergen Braehmer. ‘’I’m targeting my first title at the end of 2017 or the beginning of 2018. I’ve not had many fights, but I feel like I’m ready!”

Two-time national amateur champion, Leon Bunn (4-0, 4 KOs), has looked impressive since turning over as a professional and winning all of four of his paid contests inside the distance. The fighter from Frankfurt has yet to go past the second round, but can expect tougher resistance from Hungary’s Laszlo Ivanyi (6-4, 4 KOs).

“I’m just taking it one step at a time” said Bunn ahead of his six-round light heavyweight clash. “Getting this opportunity to fight in Wetzlar, near my hometown, is huge for me!”

Bunn’s coach Ulli Wegner has expressed his excitement about the 24 year-old’s talent: “Leon will be the first to become World Champion out of my group of young boxers,” said the legendary German trainer.

The UFC returns to Auckland, New Zealand, for the first time in three years this week with a heavyweight battle between Derrick Lewis and Mark Hunt.

The headlining bout is a bit of a relief for Hunt. He is currently tied up in litigation with the UFC due to repeatedly having to fight athletes that have been hit with anti-doping violations. Lewis, however, has never been known to have violated any anti-doping policies. So Hunt will be allowed to fight against another athlete that isn’t likely to fail his drug test and who also likes to fight a similar style: “go for broke.”

Derrick Lewis has been slowly making his way through the heavyweight division. Lewis, known for his jokes and antics as much as his powerful fists, is currently on a six-fight win streak, knocking out five of those opponents. On Saturday night, he will head into enemy territory when he squares off against New Zealand’s own Mark Hunt. The 43-year-old Hunt has been in the fight game forever, but hasn’t tasted victory since knocking out Frank Mir last March in Australia. On Saturday, he gets a chance to right the ship and end a two-fight losing streak, even though the first of those two losses has since been overturned.

Plus, Derek Brunson looks to shake off a two-fight losing streak of his own when he squares off with Daniel Kelly. Here’s how the full fight card shakes out from Auckland with the latest odds from Bovada.

Ryan Burnett challenges IBF bantamweight champion Lee Haskins hoping to repay the faith trainer Adam Booth placed in him when he let him live in his family home.

The promising 25-year-old was forced to live in a car with his dad when he first moved to England, but after years working with Booth he is expecting to enter a period of significant success.

So close have the two become that Burnett, who earlier weighed in at 8st 5lbs for Saturday’s fight at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena, remained with Booth while the latter lived in Monte Carlo.

His education more recently continued in Surrey, and he can now vindicate his trainer’s dedication by winning his first world title.

Burnett can also emulate Wayne McCullough, another world bantamweight champion from Belfast, by earning world honours in his 17th fight, and he said: ‘I went to England, and Adam took me in and trained me, as if I was his own son.

‘He’s been really, really good to me, really, really helped me out. It’s been a great relationship: he’s gone above and beyond to say the least.

‘This is the point we’ve been working towards since the start. Adam always said he knew I’d get here, and thank God, here we are on the cusp of fighting for a world title.
