The British and Irish Lions take on the Otago Highlanders in the fourth match of their tour of New Zealand, with Warren Gatland hoping to build momentum following the victory over the Crusaders at the weekend. Follow the latest here.

Following the much-needed and morale-boosting win over the Crusaders, the British and Irish Lions are in Dunedin to face the Highlanders – Super Rugby champions as recently as 2015.

For the Lions’ players the incentives are twofold; continue the momentum of the tour, and make an individual statement before the first Test against the All Blacks on 24 June.

Those who played in Christchurch have made a compelling case; now the baton has been passed on.

The British and Irish Lions take on Super Rugby’s Highlanders in their fourth tour match in Dunedin this morning.

After a win and a loss, Gatland’s men produced an impressive defensive display on Saturday against the Crusaders, a borderline Test side.

They’ll be looking to build on that today against more top quality opposition as more Lions get their chance to press for a Test spot.

What a difference a few days makes. Or, specifically, a win. In the fallout of the late defeat to the Blues, and in the run-up to the game against the previously unbeaten Crusaders, this meeting with the Highlanders was already been lined up as a salvage mission. Instead, the Lions are now looking to add to their momentum and feel good factor.

Another victory would keep some of the home media with trigger-happy fingers at bay, in the process providing a further shot in the arm for the touring party and, to be honest, the tour and the upcoming test series itself.

Admittedly the win over the Crusaders has raised the bar as well as raised morale. For the likes of Sam Warburton, Tommy Seymour and Jonathan Joseph – none of whom have featured since the undistinguished opener against the Provincial Barbarians – there is ground to be made up. But the same is true for all the rest really, given all but CJ Stander of this starting team did not feature last Saturday in Christchurch.
